In a landmark event aimed at equipping the church for the digital age, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), His Eminence Most Rev. Daniel C. Okoh, led national leaders of the association on a seminar visit to the UNICCON Institute of Technology in Abuja on Monday, 23rd June, 2025.
The seminar, titled: “Faith, Firewalls and the Future: Preparing the Church for the Next Digital Wave,” drew participants from the various CAN national directorates and wings and of the association, highlighting the growing need for religious institutions to adapt to technological advancements.
Most Rev. Okoh emphasized the importance of technology in modern evangelism and church operations during his keynote address. He articulated that as society increasingly moves towards digital platforms, the church must harness these tools to spread the gospel effectively. “The digital landscape offers an unprecedented opportunity for outreach and engagement,” he stated, urging church leaders to embrace innovation while remaining rooted in their faith.
The seminar featured series of seminar presentations from renowned facilitators and industry experts, focusing on the intersection of faith and technology. Topics included cybersecurity for churches, the use of social media for ministry, and digital literacy among church leaders. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and challenges, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at finding practical solutions to common issues faced by churches in the digital age.
Part of the highlights of the event was a facility tour round the various sections of the institute. During the tour, the tour facilitator underscored the necessity for churches to implement robust firewalls and security protocols, ensuring that their digital presence is safe and secure.
Speaking during the event, the Chairman UNICCON Group of Companies, Prof. Chuks Ekuweme announced plans for ongoing training programs for church leaders in the area of digital literacy, while calling for partnership with CAN. He noted that the church must not only adapt to current technologies but also anticipate future trends that could impact ministry. Prof. Ekuweme also urged the participants not to only be consumers of technology but also innovators who can influence the digital space.
The seminar concluded with a call to action and collaboration, urging attendees to take the knowledge gained back to their various directorates, wings and churches; as the Christian Association of Nigeria is poised to lead the charge in fostering a tech-savvy generation of church leaders.
