In a significant diplomatic gesture, the Vice President of Colombia, Francia Màrquez, accompanied by her husband and a delegation including the Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, paid a courtesy visit to the National Christian Centre in Abuja on the 31st of August , 2025.
The visit underscores the strengthening ties between Colombia and Nigeria, as well as a mutual commitment to shared values and collaboration.
Upon arrival, Vice President Màrquez was warmly received by Rev. Dr. Uzoaku Williams, the Assistant General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who welcomed her on behalf of His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the President of CAN. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural and spiritual connections between the two nations.
During the visit, Vice President Màrquez expressed her admiration for the rich spiritual heritage of Nigeria and the pivotal role that faith plays in fostering unity and peace within any nation. She highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and social justice, themes that resonate strongly in both Colombian and Nigerian contexts.
The Minister of Women Affairs, who was part of the Colombian delegation, emphasized the Colombian government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and the welfare of women and children. She noted the potential for collaboration in various sectors, particularly in initiatives aimed at empowering women and improving their socio-economic conditions.
Rev. Dr. Uzoaku Williams, speaking on behalf of CAN, thanked Vice President Màrquez for her visit and reiterated the association’s commitment to fostering inter-faith dialogue and cooperation. She expressed hopes for a fruitful partnership that could lead to shared programs and initiatives benefiting both nations.
The courtesy visit concluded with an interdenominational service and a tour round the National Christian Centre Abuja, presentation of souvenirs, a prayer for peace and prosperity in both countries by the Coordinating Chaplain of the centre, Rt. Rev Ini Ukpuho, symbolizing a commitment to working together in addressing common challenges and promoting mutual understanding.
Also present during the visit were some national officials of CAN: Dr. Celestine Aharanwa (National Treasurer, CAN), Rev. Amb. Simeon Dolly (CAN Zonal Secretary, North Central), Rev. Mike Agbon (Resident Chaplain, NCC).
